Article Review: Handheld Computer Supported Context-aware learning with 2D Barcodes (view:all)

posted Monday, 31 March 2008

This article focuses on a more orthodox approach to the use of 2D barcodes, except it adds a twist by using GPS and server side solutions to deliver dynamic content. I'm not 100% sure if you need to go to such extremes, however, the model for context-aware campus tours with delivered learning activities, which include some type of synchronous communication (it is rather unclear) shows potential. For instance, they refer to mobile based gaming. It might be really interesting to progress with the idea of the use of this technology for part of the student induction process. Again, an article that fails to deliver because it introduces interesting ideas but fails to evaluate the impact. The authors suggest that students find the technology easy to use, and 2D barcodes add to the learning experience. But where is the evidence ?
