At University of Bath we are about to roll our summer seminar series which are a number of 45 minute sessions. There are 5 sessions over 6 weeks. There is little new about that, however, for this event I have designed in a few new approaches that enhance the experience of the mobile learner.
1. Promotion and sign up.
The posters include a QR code, for more information about the event (a link), and an SMS registration number. People will register an interest to the event by simply SMS the workshop code and their BUCS username to us, and we'll email back.
2. Twitter through the event
We have created a twitter account for elearning at Bath (eatbath). This will be used to update people on event news, changes to the blog etc., during the event. The plan is to write a 160 word weekly news update. As well as let people use it as they like .. It's just a social network.
3. During the presentations.
The session leaders have autonomy over their own sessions. I'll be encouraging the following, a QR code on the presentations to link to where people can download the presentation (all of which will be in slideshare).
I will also experiment with the idea of broadcasting my session via skype. This will include visuals and audio, and encourage people ask questions.
I will evaluate the use of these approaches at the end of the seminar series.
